Neo Flora Plant List

Neo Flora: The Plants Behind the Exhibit

Neo Flora combines moody lighting, cyberpunk aesthetics, and a carefully curated selection of houseplants to create an environment that reflects a teenager's sate of mind with chaos and clutter and aims to showcase the therapeutic power of plants.

Each plant in the display has been chosen not only for its beauty but also for its symbolism, adaptability, and role in bringing the Neo Flora vision to life. Here’s a closer look at the stars of the exhibit:

Statement Plants

These larger, eye-catching plants create structure and drama in the space, acting as focal points and bringing a lush, overgrown feel to the room.

Monstera deliciosa (Swiss Cheese Plant)

With its bold, hole-punched leaves, Monstera deliciosa is an urban jungle essential. It thrives in low-light environments, making it perfect for the dimly lit setting of Neo Flora. Its sprawling growth represents resilience, adapting to new environments while maintaining its striking presence.

Monstera adansonii variegata

A rarer cousin of the Swiss cheese plant, this variegated form has stunning white-marbled leaves that pop against the dark backdrop. Its unique patterning mirrors the individuality and self-expression central to the exhibit’s theme.

Alocasia gageana ‘Aurea’

This bright yellow Alocasia adds an unexpected splash of colour amidst the moody tones of the exhibit. Alocasias are known for their dramatic foliage and fast growth, making them symbolic of transformation and new beginnings.

Monstera ‘Thai Constellation’

A true collector’s piece, this Monstera’s creamy variegation mimics a starry night sky, fitting perfectly with the exhibit’s neon lighting. It represents the balance between structure and spontaneity—an essential theme in Neo Flora.

Trailing & Vertical Elements

These plants help create a layered, immersive environment, climbing walls, cascading from shelves, and softening the space.

Epipremnum aureum (Golden Pothos)

Pothos is one of the most adaptable and low-maintenance houseplants, making it ideal for beginner plant enthusiasts. In Neo Flora, it’s used to create a "waterfall wardrobe" effect, symbolizing growth even in the most challenging environments.

Tradescantia (various varieties)

These fast-growing, striped, and variegated plants thrive in hanging pots and bring striking texture to the display. Their vibrant purples and greens enhance the neon cyberpunk theme.

Understory & Ground Cover Plants

Tucked beneath furniture and filling shadowy corners, these plants mimic the layered biodiversity of a natural forest floor.

Cryptanthus rubens (Earth Star)

This low-growing bromeliad has a star-shaped rosette in shades of pink and red, tying in with the exhibit’s colour palette. It thrives in terrariums, making it ideal for the under-bed planting concept.

Oxalis triangularis (Purple Shamrock)

With its deep purple, butterfly-like leaves, Oxalis brings a magical, slightly surreal quality to the display. The leaves fold up at night, adding movement and life to the space.

Athyrium niponicum (Japanese Painted Fern)

This silvery, metallic-tinged fern thrives in low light, making it a perfect contrast to the neon lighting. Its intricate fronds provide a delicate, feathery texture against the exhibit’s more structured elements.

Hydroponic & Soilless Elements

Neo Flora highlights alternative growing methods like hydroponics, where plants thrive without soil. These selections showcase the beauty of exposed roots and nutrient-rich water systems.

Scindapsus (various species)

Scindapsus is a close relative of pothos, but its thicker, velvety leaves make it stand out. In Neo Flora, it plays a key role in hydroponic displays, with its roots visible in glass containers.

Philodendron ‘Pink Princess’ & ‘Prince of Orange’

These philodendrons bring striking colour contrasts—deep pinks and fiery oranges—that pop against the exhibit’s dark aesthetic. They are also excellent candidates for hydroponic growing.

Rare & Collector’s Plants

For plant enthusiasts and collectors, Neo Flora includes a few particularly special species that add exclusivity to the display.

Begonia brevirimosa

With its deep pink and green marbled leaves, this rare begonia brings an artistic, almost painterly quality to the exhibit. It thrives in humidity, making it a great addition to the more enclosed sections of the display.

Alternanthera ‘Party Time’

This striking plant features neon pink and green foliage, making it an ideal match for the exhibit’s bold colour scheme.

Accessible & Easy-Care Houseplants

Neo Flora aims to inspire young people to embrace houseplants, so it also includes easy-care varieties that anyone can keep at home.

Cacti & Echeveria (various species)

Ideal for small spaces and requiring minimal care, these succulents are perfect for beginners. Their sculptural forms add structure to the display.

Haworthia (various species)

With their geometric rosettes and low-maintenance nature, Haworthias fit effortlessly into the exhibit’s modern aesthetic.

Anthuriums (various species)

These tropical plants with their glossy, heart-shaped leaves and long-lasting flowers add an exotic touch.

Calathea (various species)

Known for their intricate leaf patterns, Calatheas are included to showcase the beauty of foliage. They also symbolize resilience, as their leaves open and close with the light.
